Hindi Diwas (14/9/12)

Hindi Language was declared as a National Language by the Indian constitution on September 14, 1949. Hindi Diwas is observed to commemorate the day. Orchids-The International School had a special morning assembly on September 14.  The importance of Hindi language was emphasized in students’ speeches. Language and culture go hand in hand. To retain our cultural identity, we should make united efforts for the progress and promotion of the ‘link language’ Hindi, so that unity of the country can be strengthened.

The students took part in the celebration with great fervour. ‘Saraswati Vandana’, a programme of girls dancing to a Hindi song, invoking the blessings of the Goddess Saraswati, sung by the school choir formed a major attraction. The junior wing also participated in the celebration. The Hindi patriotic song of the students of class V transmitted a feeling of pride in everyone. The short skit presented by class VIII explained why Hindi Diwas is observed and the significance of the day. A PowerPoint presentation prepared by the Head of the Hindi Department, Mrs. Kamala Srinivas was shown. Hindi has a history behind; it belongs to Indo–Aryan branch of Indo European language family and the language has travelled a long distance to make its presence felt in the world.

Principal, Mrs. Mona Mehdi addressed in Hindi and the speech was followed by the National Anthem bringing the special assembly to a close.

Teacher's Day Celebration (5/9/12)

Teacher's Day is celebrated as a tribute to the valuable contribution made by teachers to the society by imparting knowledge and enlightening and shaping the career of students. Nothing will ever replace a good teacher even in this age of many sources of information. One of the ways students celebrate Teachers’ Day is by representing teachers in their classes doing the work their teachers do. This is an occasion they realize what it means to be a teacher and what it means to control and direct several students in their classes. The vital contribution that teachers make to education and development is specially honoured on Teachers’ Day- a day we gratefully remember the great educationist, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India.

Students of Orchids- The International School celebrated Teachers’ Day with a lot of eagerness. They spoke expressing gratitude to their teachers, represented them cheerfully and entertained them with ‘Guess the teacher’ programme, musical chairs and fun and frolic. Cake-cutting followed. Principal, Mrs. Mona Mehdi appreciated the students of class X for a proper organization of the event. She, on behalf of the Management of Orchids, gifted teachers as a token of recognition of their efforts and arranged an outing for the staff members.
Teachers mould the lives that they influence because the lessons learnt from teachers remain with their students throughout life. Teachers need encouragement and support from the community to feel that their devotion to students is appreciated.
‘What nobler employment, or more valuable to the state, than that of the man who instructs the rising generation?’
